Reflection Statement
I began the Learning Systems Design and Development, LSDD, program with vague ideas of how to utilize technology for supporting human learning. I understood that technology could help instructors reach larger audiences, create interactive and individualized learning environments, but I was not sure about how to discover what was appropriate or what in particular would help users to understand new ideas or topics. The LSDD curriculum integrated topics that are important to planning and designing. As I progressed in the program, my coursework introduced variety of frameworks for how to better plan and create resources for learning and performance support. One of the essential elements for designing and developing learning systems is awareness of all aspects of the planning process to recognize circumstances and dilemmas before, during and after implementation. Another essential element is to make sure that a variety of theories, direct instruction, cognitive theory, cooperative work, etc., are incorporated into designing learning environments.
I'm interested in getting more involved in instructional design. After completing the LSDD program, I'm more confident in my ability to analyze, design, implement and evaluate a variety of instructional techniques. I'm interested in making use of my background in educational technology, art, computers and accounting to help instructors incorporate the use of technology into teaching.
