Jamie wants big boom

I think of all sorts of witty things to share throughout the day, but when it comes time to set something down to the blog.. Nothing. One of the things I have considered is going back through all the “stories” I wrote in school and sharing them with everyone. Don’t know if that would be entertaining, I’m thinking it might be more embarrassing than anything.

Or.. I need to spend time fixing the template for the site and connect my flickr and picasa web accounts to this blog.

yep, nothing like a big boom to make the whole site a lot more exciting.

yard full of grackles

Watched grackles kick up leaves in the background this afternoon looking for insects and other grubs.  If the weather had been warmer, I might have joined them with a rake.  Instead, I spent the afternoon, uninstalling baseboard heaters from 6 rooms.  Now I have to find a way to get rid of the registers, not to mention I still need to get around to fixing the wall holes, baseboard trim and painting.  Owning a home is a never ending source of projects.

three weeks notice

I gave my boss a letter of resignation this morning. It’s official, my last day at my job is April 11th. My first day as Instructional Technologist is April 14th. Know I’m thinking I should have padded that time a bit and take a bit of time off, since I won’t have any break for three months. oh well, at least I’ll have a few three day weeks with Memorial weekend in May.

This is part of the job description for my new job that I think is the most exciting!

This position will research and implement new methods of multimedia to add to existing courses and train instructors on how to apply the methods to each course section. The Instructional Technologist will be part of a team to evaluate existing course(s) from a technological point of view and add resources to enhance the students’ overall learning experience.

Today’s Brain Crack

Sent in a reservation form for fields for summer league. Hopefully, I get the space. Fields that are centrally located and able to host numerous teams are going to be harder and harder to reserve. I may not get them this year for summer league. We’ll see.

Talk on the forum today about changing fields yet again. There are so many things I would like to contribute, but I’m not participating in the conversation. I’ve found its much better to hold the tongue than to incite a riot. But it did get me to thinking about places for a possible Saturday event/picnic. I called Parks and Rec and found out that the shelter I want to reserve is booked until mid June on Saturdays. I’m still going to have to drive by the location and check out the field space, because it sounds “ideal.” Shelter, soccer field, bathrooms, volleyball, playground, gravel trail all in one tidy location.

Mental note: need to reserve parks and rec. shelters at least three months in advance.

late night

Can’t fall asleep and the clock has slowing ticked past midnight. My head was buzzing with all the things that I need to start, finish or any of the various stages in between. However, now that I’ve gotten up and turned on the computer to write a few things down, I don’t remember what those few things were.

Here’s a video of Jonathan Coulton singing Creepy Doll. Funny and good music too. He was interviewed on TWiT a few weeks ago, talking about how he got into making music. A very interesting story.

Taxes and movies

Currently watching The Last King of Scotland. I’ve turned on the English subtitles to make out some of the stronger accents. Ah.. that’s all I can say at the moment, since the movie is still moving along.. though I fear that things are about to change for the worse.

Finished filling out tax forms late last night. Exciting right? I think this is the first year I didn’t have to send some form of payment for owed taxes and that’s definitely exciting. Submitted them this morning. the show with zefrankYAH! It means I can take taxes are off my list of things to get done. Which is good since I’ve added reserving fields for summer league. Not sure how the reservations will work out when I change jobs.

Ze Frank video for the week. Just say no to brain crack.

Fits and Starts

I’m still playing around with layout templates, so the site tends to change from day to day. I’ve not found one that fits everything I like or need.  I’m hoping to take a bit of time this weekend to customize one of the templates. Part of the challenge with deciding is the lack of goals and subject matter for this site.

way back – Haven’t Posted in a While

Seems like I’ve not posted in a while and that’s pretty much true. so I figured I’d share a thought or two. Here’s a small version of an oil pastel I worked on last weekend.

Coming back from hiking about Grindstone, I started thinking about the car wave. I’ve not seen them lately, if at all. The car wave is generally given by the driver of one vehicle to the driver of an oncoming vehicle. I don’t know if’s a greeting that’s only practiced in rural areas or if in these days of multilane highways and darkened windows people have become isolated within their own automobile islands. There’s no more flip of the fingers from the steering wheel to acknowlege a fellow driver, unless it’s in the action of rudely giving them the bird. I remember cheerfully waving back from the passenger’s set at on coming cars when I was much younger. So I’ve decided to reintroduce it to my driving lexicon.

way back – posting

So’ve I not posted in a month or so, nothing much going on. Haven’t progressed in my plan to create a “portfolio” site. Would probably be a little different if I was actively job seeking.

Lately I’ve been working on Summer League 2004. This is my third year of putting together the league. It has gotten better. This year we’d 79 people sign up, which is the same number as last year. I think that’s actually saying a lot about growth, this year we are collecting a 10 fee. Players get about 10 weeks of ultimate fun and a t-shirt. One of the nights will be a fun night, with food and games. I’m also quite proud of the new logo I created for this years shirts. 🙂
