way back – a sad day

Kari’s taking the communtiy college spanish teaching job in South Carolina, she starts in January. I’m quite sad that she’s leaving town, however I think this job is a great opportunity and don’t want her to miss out on it. Well, I guess I have to start work on making friends again. Not many people what to stick around this place. Well, maybe this is just the end of what started out as, and has continued to be, a bad year and next year will be fun.

way back – Doctor Visit

So, I’m off to the orthopeadic clinic tomorrow. Might have partially healed stress fractures in both legs… might have to work on my training regiment for Ultimate… Adding more warmup time and stretching would probably be a good thing. Maybe it’s just a sign I’m getting old. 🙂 nah But it at least it explains why my legs hurt when I try to just jog around. I spent a lot of time this week looking up websites and reading up on the differences between pain from shin splints and stress fractures. not sure at this point, but it could have been bad. It’s probably not a good thing that I keep running through the pain. I’d say I’ve had this pain since January, if not before. Guess I get to take a few weeks off, maybe just show up at the fields to throw the disc around.

Ok, so I guess it’s time for a new post… I’ve been browsing http://www.shockwave.com a lot lately… Has it all games, videos, music mixers.. what else could you ask for on long saturday night with a cable modem for company. Here’s a pretty cool video for those that enjoy skiing and/or extreme sports. Title of the film is Gap Jump, and was sponsored by the Nissan xterra. That pretty much explains it all.

Way Back – Nothing Much

Nothing notable going on around here. Can’t believe that it’s aleady the end of October. The last three months have passed quickly. Ok, so I’m digging for a topic for a blog entry. Something to justify sharing it with the world.

humm.. nothing much..

lets see.. my bell south phone is picking up lots of static, and at somepoint someone dropped it and the phone hasn’t been the same since. It lost everyother letter/digit in the caller id widow, so it almost doesn’t make the money I pay for caller id each month as worth while. I just can’t justify spending more money on another phone though. I’ve just added it to the list of things that went badly.

Anyways, I’m going to have fun this weekend. I’ve taken two days off, something I’ve not done in a while.

Thinking about going to Florence, Italy in June.. need to save up a ton of money to go. Can you believe it, FOUR weeks touring one of the world’s greatest historic art centers….. I would have to chose between drawing, painting, photography or graphic design. oh geez, what a decision… I think I’m going to go grab my Art History text books and do a bit of relearning…

Talk to everyone later.

way back – Disc Throwing

entry sparked by rec.sport.disc.

question: My backhand is pretty lacking and I am sure that it is due to lack of wrist snap in that direction. So, how should I go about to develop more wrist snap on my backhands? Just keep throwing and throwing and throwing?

My thoughts, which follow some of what the conversation did. Grip is usually 60-70 percent of accuracy and distance problems. Many times, people grip the disc lightly and it floats out of their hands. This increases the stiffness of your hand and wrist with increases wrist snap. also helps keep the disc in a straight line. Like a cross between a karate chop and snapping your fingers.

One comment made by Mike Gerics was also interesting.. I’d never thought of the comments I make while helping others with their throwing….
when i try to get folks to grip the disc tighter and use more wrist snap. the first throw is most often a zinger that is way off target. and as it flies by me.and while i am chasing it i always say “that’s the best throw i’ve seen you make, yet”
they laugh and think i am making fun of them. i assure them…”i’m not joking…..proper throwing form is the hard part….getting the aim down, is easy….we’ll work on that next”

All I can say is this is very true! Working on changing your throws, breaking old habbits takes a bit of time. It means while your throwing before practice/pickup, pretending that you have a defender on you. Don’t just stand straight and throwing directly at the other person. Establish a pivot foot. Lunge with the other leg and throw.. concentrate on accuracy. Avoid trick throws during warmsup until you have the basics down.. Once you have the basics it’s incredibly easy to pick up those trick throws.

way back – Thoughts

I don’t enjoy the question where do you see yourself in 5-10 years.. there are so many answers to that question.

1. Working as a graphic designer in Chicago.
2. Organizing events.
3. making a living as a photographer.
4. same place I am now?
5. Managing a retail store
There are just so manythings that I think.. hay that’d be great to do

Things I can’t see myself doing…
wearing power suits with heels
Formal work enviroments
humm.. still thinking
